Michel Barat 1990 Chablis Premier Cru Cote de Lechet
Minerals and notes of baked bread with a touch of alcohol sticking out. More reserved palate, well-balanced, finished maybe just a touch hot. ** ...
Cote de Lechet is located on steep southeast facing slopes with the Bois de Lechet atop the hill. The wine is mineral but fragrant and floral and (especially as it ages) nutty. It is a bit more subtle than the more powerful neighboring 1er Cru Vaillons. Classic gout de la Pierre a Fusil and minerals on the palate expresses the steep and stony vineyards. It is often said that Montmains is “of the earth” and Cote de Lechet is “of the air”, a bit less dense with more lift.
