Domaine du Chardonnay is an expansive (now 26 ha.), under-the-radar domaine of excellent quality run by a triumvirate of talented gentlemen – Christian Simon (winegrower), William Nahan (an agriculturalist) and Etienne Boileau (a technician from Credit Agricole). In addition to well-made Chablis and Petit Chablis, there are five premier crus, Montee de Tonnerre, Montmains, Mont de Milieu, Vaugiraut and Vaillons. Montee de Tonnerre and Mont de Milieu receive between 20 and 40% oak treatment, everything else is entirely in cuve. The Montmains is a standout and highly recommended. Except for the bit of oak, the winemkaing is pretty straightforward and meticulously looked after. Despite the rather boring name to this domaine, the wines are surprisingly exciting.
