Domaine de la Motte
Domaine de la Motte is not hard to find as the village of Beine has several prominent signs leading one to the “Caveau Pittoresque”. Arriving at the domaine, which sits atop the hill (facing l’Eglise de Nôtre Dame), one finds a quaint gazebo, which offers an enticing view of the surrounding village. It is a highly recommended stop off on any summer visits to Chablis with a nice stock of past vintages in normal sized bottles and en magnum.
More importantly for the wine, the Michauts have been busy in recent years, with an intense focus to upgrade facilities in order to improve the wine. At the bottom of the hill there is a large, modern facility that has been built very recently. From this new edifice comes Petit Chablis, two Chablis Villages (one, Vieilles-Vignes, from 35-50 year vines), and premiers crus Vauligneu and Beauroy. With the exception of Beauroy, which sees three months in oak, the wines are fermented entirely in stainless steel. The wines do not disappoint and with the additional recent investments will likely further improve over the immediate future.
