Chablis Wine Villages
The French wine region that we call Chablis is actually made up of Chablis itself and twenty “satellite” villages that surround it. The largest number of domaines is indeed in Chablis itself. As a general rule, out of necessity and convenience, domaines in the other villages tend to make wines from the vineyards nearest to them. So, producers from Maligny often create l’Homme Mort, in Milly make Côte de Léchet, in Fleys bottle Fourneaux, and so on. These smaller villages are located within a roughly twenty kilometer circle with Chablis as its epicenter; the same area encloses the classed vineyards – Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru.
